Превращение мусора в сокровища: Треторн

Did you know that approximately 650,000 tons of fishing nets are estimated to drift like debris in our oceans? These so called ‘ghost nets’ are considered to be the greatest threat to marine life. One of our favorite brands, Tretorn, has found a way to turn this trash into treasures…

WHAT IS TRETORN?

1891 - BORN OUT OF SCANDINAVIAN WEATHER

The tough Scandinavian weather was challenging for the farmers who didn’t have shoes to protect them from the cold or wet weather. The new Tretorn galoshes were a big innovation, which helped farmers all over the country to stay warm and dry when they were walking the fields.

1903 – FIRST RUBBER BOOT

Tretorn went from only producing protective galoshes for the farmers to produce the first rubber boot, as we know it today. This was a natural progression and made the rubber boot user-friendly to not only the farmers but also to regular customers.

1939 – REGENERATED RUBBER

During the Second World War all imports of rubber were stopped. In 1939 a nation-wide rubber collection started in Sweden. Tretorn encouraged customers to hand in old rubber boots and rubber waste and they then regenerated the rubber at the factory into new products.

There has been many changes within the company since 1939 (they started to manufacture tennis balls, shoes and other equipment), but they keep it sustainable and ethical. They still produce one of the best rain boots made of natural rubber.

ECO ESSENTIALS INITIATIVE

This is something that impress us a lot: Tretorn is not just high-quality, but also eco-responsible product.

They started with the ‘LEFTOVER PROJECT’ in 2016: they bought leftover fabrics from manufacturers and used it to create extremely limited edition collections, all depending on what was left behind in the factory.

2017 was a year of ‘GHOST NET PROJECT’ - it was a limited co-lab collection made out of recycled fishing nets, collected to prevent ghost nets in our oceans.

The invention of 2018 was the ‘THE BIO PLANT JACKET’, a 100% degradable rain jacket. The project sprung from the idea of creating a rain jacket that resembled nature’s own circular eco system. Instead of using a material derived from fossil fuel they used PLA (Polylactide) from Tapioca and sugar cane.

OCEAN-SHELL® was launched in 2018 as their next invention within the Eco Essentials initiative. The OCEAN-SHELL® is a three layer fabric made from recycled PET-bottles collected from the ocean outside of Taiwan. The jacket is equipped with a hydrophilic membrane, which is also made from recycled PET from the ocean. This makes the fabric a full circle renewable source adapted to be recycled again.
