How To Choose A Sustainable Gift? Our Guide
Our project was founded partly because of this challenging experience of choosing a gift. Not just a gift, but the right and sustainable one. Plenty of gift-guides tell us to give DIY presents, donations or different courses: it’s cool, but sometimes not very appropriate (for example, if you choose a gift for someone you don’t know very well). So, after years of research we’d like to share 6 points you need to check before buying a present.
MADE OF NATURAL
All natural materials are not only good for our body/skin/etc., but also harmless for our planet, because they’re recyclable and biodegradable. Of course, plastic is recyclable too, but now we know about finding microplastics in the water and ocean food chain.
Wherever possible, choose gifts that have been made or grown by locals from raw materials produced or sourced in the same place. Buying locally will support the local economy and employment, and minimize energy expenditure and emissions associated with transport.
Try to find out if the conditions and wages of the workers who made the product are fair and the sources of natural materials are renewable. Almost every ethical brand mentions it.
It’s always better to give something unique, something with a story behind… than something you can buy on every corner.
High-quality = long-lasting. Really good things can’t cost 3 pennies. Choose quality over quantity, 1 instead of 1000
