Skandinavisk: Candles With Danish DNA
Continuing our aromatherapy theme, we’d like to share one of our favorite brands that was actually built on a love story (isn’t it intriguing?). Fragrances, that represent Danish nature and sustainable way of manufacturing as a bonus.
"Skandinavisk was started by a curious English chap, Shaun, who fell in love with a blonde Scandinavian gardener and never left. He was joined by a second English emigrant, Gerry, who shared his love for Scandinavia and a Danish designer, Line, who captured their combined experiences and translated it all into our distinctive design DNA"
Just a few words make and a great statement: this brand was founded on the most powerful basis – love – for a blonde gardener and for the Scandinavian nature. They put this feeling into a bottle and mixed with essential oils and other ingredients – that’s how Skandinavisk candles were created.
THE PROCESS OF CREATION
The team travels trough the Nordic region and explores local beaty, traditions to embody this special Nordic spirit into unique fragrances.
As far as we know, there’re 3 important steps of creating within Skandinavisk:
- Collecting impressions of flora and fauna of the Scandinavian region to create the most authentic fragrances
- Connecting these impressions with gentleman french perfumer who helps to interpret that theme through a combination of artistry and chemistry
- Balancing these ideas with local Danish gardener and finding inspiration at these places too
Home fragrances in different forms – candles, diffusers, also hand & body collection. The minimalistic design with authentic symbols and amazing descriptions bring joy to all of our 5 senses.
Skandinavisk made a ‘New Generation’ collection – a more sustainable update of their products. Now the ingredients, the packaging and all the manufacturing processes make as less harm as possible (B-corp certificate confirms this fact)
We were surprised to know that they don’t use soy wax anymore, because eventually there’s an even more sustainable alternative – rapeseed wax.
Rape is widely produced in both the UK and in Europe, you would certainly recognise the bright yellow flowers in fields all around the country. Rapeseed wax comes from the oil that is harvested from the plant, it is completely sustainable, with no issues of intensive farming or GMO presence. This renewable material has been developed to produce high quality candle blends. Hardened from rapeseed oil, these ‘greener’ alternatives offer superb fragrance retention, scent throw and extended burn times. Their characteristics allow easy colour addition for both pigments and dyes.
All in all, we are in love with Skandinavisk and highly recommend this brand’s products, because it’s the real treasure of the Baltic Sea States.
